Charity concerts
We are organizing a charity concert by the Cor Festival Cap Rocat in the Parish of Santa Creu de Palma on March 26, 2025, for the benefit of the ELA Balearic Association. Under the title “Spirituality in the Opera”, the choir, directed by Joan Company and accompanied on piano by Jesús López, will perform works by Verdi, Massenet, Puccini and Mascagni, fusing music and solidarity in a unique evening.
The funds raised will help improve the quality of life of people affected by ALS in the Balearic Islands, offering them essential support. In addition, the event gives visibility to local musical talent and the commitment of the Cor Festival Cap Rocat. Tickets are available from 30 euros and a row 0 has been enabled for those who want to collaborate without attending.
This concert is a great opportunity to enjoy good music in an exceptional environment and, at the same time, contribute to an important cause.
Parish of Santa Cruz
The Parish of Santa Creu de Palma, founded in the 13th century, is one of the most emblematic religious centres in the city. Its baroque architecture preserves the medieval essence of the crypt of Sant Llorenç and the head of the temple. Over the centuries, it has been linked to the portion of the bishop of Barcelona, to the Carthusian monastery of Valldemossa and, above all, to the artisan trade, the fishermen, merchants and sailors of the neighbourhoods of Santa Catalina and Sant Pere.
For three years, the parish has been immersed in the development of its master plan, a document that seeks to rethink the management and conservation of its rich cultural heritage. With a global vision, it is intended to carry out the comprehensive restoration of the temple and its movable assets, without forgetting the social aspect of the project, which is specified in an agreement with the Mater Foundation. This foundation provides personnel to open the parish every day to visitors. On the other hand, the musical aspect is materialized through the International Organ Festival and the religious music cycles of Holy Week and Christmas. In addition, Santa Creu has a firm commitment to contemporary religious art, as demonstrated by the celebration of the mass "Demasiado Tarde" by José María Sicilia.
With all these initiatives, the Parish of Santa Creu puts itself at the service of the community, with the aim of preserving its heritage and keeping its cultural legacy alive.
ELA Balearic Islands
ELA Balears was born in 2018 thanks to a group of people aware of the situation suffered by people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Its main objectives are to give visibility to ALS, defend the rights of those affected and provide care to them and their families on a daily basis, offering them support during this difficult stage and helping to improve their quality of life.
We have different services such as support, respiratory physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychology and support products.
Currently, the association has nearly 60 affected people in the Balearic Islands.
It is important to remember that ALS is an affectation of the motor neurons, the neurons involved in movement. For some unknown reason, these neurons atrophy and lose their ability to move muscles. As a result, the person becomes increasingly dependent. In addition, ALS affects breathing, swallowing and communication, but the person's cognitive capacity remains intact.
The life expectancy of this neurodegenerative process is between 2 and 5 years. Currently, there are around 4,000 people with ALS throughout Spain.
Unfortunately, it is a disease that has no cure.
